Jethro Horowitz wins the 2007 Aussie Millions Omaha Hi Lo Tournament by Jethro Horowitz

Card Academy is pleased to announce that Jethro Horowitz has won the Omaha Hi Lo Tournament at the Aussie Millions. Jethro fought through 96 players and played for over 17 hours to take home the trophy and $33,600.

Jethro managed to stay alive during the early stages of the tournament despite being dealt junk hands. He said he made some key bluffs to build his chip stack to average. During the mid-stage of the tournament, Jethro’s hands did not improve and he was forced to continue stealing pots to stay in the game.

It was during the final stages of the tournament that Jethro really started to shine. He started to pick up hands, and furthermore, those hands stood up against people’s draws. Just before the final table was drawn, Jethro’s table became 5-handed, which meant he could play more aggressively and attack the short-stacks. Jethro’s chip stack began to build and build.

When the final table was drawn, Jethro was second in chips with $86,000, where the chip leader, who was sitting to Jethro’s immediate left had $114,000. Jethro soon became chip leader and his aggressive play saw him demolishing players’ stacks. When it came down to heads-up, Jethro had a massive lead with $310,000 over his opponent Adam Geyer who had $74,000. Geyer played very well vs. Jethro and his aggressive play had Jethro down to the wire.

After a 10 minute break, where Jethro discussed tournament strategy with the other Card Academy members- Arul, Nick and Emad, he changed his game and began to play back at Geyer. When Geyer checked, Jethro would bet and when Geyer bet, Jethro would raise. This strategy gave Jethro the turn-around he needed and after over 3 hours of heads-up play, Jethro took home the trophy and the cash. You can read a detailed analysis of what Jethro went through in this event in the Articles section.
